ALI G INDA HOUSE

With Sacha Baron Cohen, Michael Gambon, Charles Dance
Directed by Mark Mylod

Cohen's often funny creation of the ignorant twit Ali G originally made an impact on BBC TV with his show, doing interviews with serious public figures, asking them the most dumb-ass questions imaginable. Ali G is the moron leader of the West Staines Massive (a posse of a mere quarter dozen wannabe gangsters). The quiet little town is hardly the ghetto Ali G believes it to be. When the youth center's funding it to be pulled, Ali's protest results in him becoming a pawn in toppling the Prime Minister - a front for connecting more with the people before election time. But when his unconventional, idiotic and silly policies become popular, the WuTang and Fubu wearing numbskull's presence raise the party's stake in the popularity poles. With a truckload of stupidity, fantasy, dreams and craziness, Ali G turns it upside down - even when the villain plays real dirty, Ali can play dirtier. Like
South Park's boom at the start, it dwindled very suddenly. Same thing with Ali G, but you can still find it funny even after the hype has dropped.
